What are PFAS and what is Millis doing to address them?

PFAS are a group of numerous human-made chemicals used since the 1950s to manufacture stain-resistant, water-resistant, and non-stick products such as clothing, carpets, fabrics for furniture, paper packaging for food and other materials (e.g., nonstick cookware). Millis is monitoring its water sources and taking steps to reduce PFAS. During recent voluntary water testing, the Town discovered slightly elevated levels of PFAS in one of its drinking water sources. The source (D’Angelis Water Treatment Plant) was immediately shut down and will remain offline as Millis evaluates treatment options and continues to monitor its other wells.
