What happens to the animals picked up by Animal Control?

State law requires any dog that is picked up be held for 7 days. This allows the owner time to report the animal missing. If the animal is not claimed, the Animal Control Department will either place the dog themselves or place the dog with a local shelter or rescue for adoption.  There is no "stray holding period" law for other animals, including cats. It is important you act quickly and report your missing pet immediately.
