Economic Development and Planning Department

Mission

The Economic Development and Planning Department handles the Town’s planning initiatives and programs for economic development, sustainability, land use, housing, and projects advancing the priorities of the Select Board and other municipal committees. It provides technical support to, and coordinates with, other Town departments, including Millis’ Economic Development Committee, the Millis Planning Board, and the Town’s Zoning Board of Appeals on a variety of development matters.

Working with the Economic Development Committee, the department helps shape and develop initiatives that promote a vibrant quality of life in Millis. An example would include the Millis Complete Streets Policy, adopted in 2022 to make Millis a more walkable and accessible community. The department also supports the EDC in connecting with the Town’s business community.

Working with Millis’ MBTA 3A Advisory Committee, the Department brings the community together with technical consultants to maximize the benefits of meeting the state’s new 40A/3A re-zoning requirement.

The department supports Millis as a growing, sustainable, and healthy community for all its residents and businesses.
