Conservation Commission

Mission

The Conservation Commission is the official agency specifically charged with the protection of natural resources in the Town of Millis. In 1972 Conservation Commissions were authorized to administer the State Wetlands Protection Act (M.G.L. Ch 131 sec. 40), the first act of its kind in the nation. Additionally, the Conservation Commission is charged with administering the Town's Wetland Protection Bylaw (Article XIX). Any work that involves removing, filling, dredging or altering an area within 100 feet of a wetland, or within 200 feet of any perennial river or stream, flood zone or other protected area, requires filing with the Conservation Commission.

Note: If you are planning any landscaping, building, or work within 100' of a wetland or 200' of a stream, please contact the Commission to determine whether you will need a permit. Please call or email before breaking ground or cutting a tree.

NOTE: LEGAL AD FEE CHANGE - The legal advertisement fee is no longer $85.00  The fee will now be in the exact amount the newspaper charges for that specific advertisement.  Once the hearing advertisement is placed with the paper, by the Conservation Commission, the applicant will be notified of the cost and will be expected to submit a check for that exact amount, payable to the Town of Millis, and sent to the attention of the Conservation Commission prior to the first hearing.  Please contact Camille Standley at cstandley@millisma.gov with any questions.  Thank you.
