Proclamation Announcing Older Americans Appreciation Month - May 2023
At the April 24, 2023 Select Board meeting the Board officially proclaimed May 2023 to be Older Americans Appreciation Month.
The proclamation reads as follows:
PROCLAMATION Older Americans Appreciation Month – May 2023
Whereas, each May, the President of the United States issues a Proclamation to salute Americans over the age of 60 to bring greater public awareness to those who contribute their time, wisdom, and experience to their communities. This annual recognition was begun sixty years ago by President John F. Kennedy and has been adopted by towns and cities nationwide; and
Whereas, it has been proven that communities benefit when people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds have the opportunity to participate and live independently; and
Whereas, Millis recognizes the need to create a community that offers the services that older adults may need to make choices about how they age; and
Whereas, Millis can work to build an even better community for our older residents by:
Not limiting our thinking about aging,
Emphasizing the many positive aspects of aging,
Inspiring older adults to push past traditional boundaries, and
Embracing our community’s diversity.
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that the Select Board of Millis, Massachusetts, does hereby proclaim May 2023, to be Older Americans Appreciation Month. We urge everyone to celebrate our older citizens, help to create an inclusive society, and accept the challenge of flexible thinking around aging.
