Transportation

The Millis Council on Aging offers transportation services to seniors and persons with disabilities who reside in the town. Transportation is offered via Council on Aging minibus, minivan, or sedan by our paid and volunteer drivers. Our minibus and minivan are handicapped accessible with a hydraulic lift ramp.

All transportation is by appointment only. Reservations must be made at least 48 hours in advance by calling the Senior Center at (508) 376-7051. Priority is given to medical appointments, such as doctor visits, lab work, etc. Transportation is also made available for weekly shopping trips to local grocery stores and shopping centers and the Millis Food Pantry. Based on availability, transportation is offered to the Center for activities; nursing home visits, local hairdresser appointments, voting, post office runs, banking, town offices and the library.

The Senior Center must be advised of any changes or cancelations of appointments. After hours, messages can be left on the office answering machine.

Transportation services are available Monday through Friday, from 8:30am, until 2:30pm, excluding holidays. Expanded hours for scheduled medical appointments are possible, depending on driver availability and prior authorization. We request that appointment times be no earlier than 8:00am, and no later than 2:00pm.

We reserve the right to require a personal caregiver to accompany an individual. Passengers riding the van must be fully capable of getting on & off the van with only minimal assistance from the driver. Please note that our drivers are not allowed to attend medical appointments with clients, this is the responsibility of the client, family member or caregiver.

COA transportation is partially funded through the town. In order to continue this much needed service, we do request donations. Suggested donations: $2 per person per trip locally; $3 to Bellingham, Franklin, Medfield, Medway; $5 to Ashland, Foxboro, Framingham, Milford, Natick, Norwood, $10 to Dedham, Needham, Newton, Waltham, Wellesley, W.Roxbury and $25 round trip, plus tolls and parking for Boston. No tipping.

In the event that Millis schools are canceled due to inclement weather, Council on Aging transportation will also be canceled. Transportation may also be canceled if the driver judges the conditions to be too hazardous.
