Millis' Complete Streets Program

The MassDOT Complete Streets Funding Program provides construction funding to eligible municipalities. Millis received a Massachusetts Complete Streets designation earlier this year.  In March of 2022, the Select Board certified its policy “to provide the greatest possible access to transportation for all of Millis' transit users”.

Millis’ Complete Streets Program is an approach to designing streets that enables safe access for all people who need to use them, including pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorists of all ages and abilities. Living without public transportation, where there are longer distances to local destinations, has led us to forget that we don’t always need cars to get around.  We can often walk and ride bicycles.  But, our aging mobility infrastructure, like sidewalks and streets, has become outmoded and requires updating to allow us to use different modes of transportation. That’s where the Complete Streets program can help Millis.  The program will help fund new detectable pads on sidewalk ramps.  We will be able to build, extend, and repair sidewalks, refresh crossing areas, and make the places where pedestrians, bicycles, and automobiles intersect safer.

Millis’ Complete Streets Prioritization Plan lists twenty projects. The state’s Department of Transportation can provide up to $500,000.00. For more information on funding click HERE.
